If you read my blog on a regular basis, you know I am obsessed with the idea of driverless cars. I have frequently said that I will be among the first to own one when they become available, and my hope is that my children will never need a driver’s license.
Many have told me that this will never happen and that I watched too many episodes of The Jetsons as a kid.
Then, in March, I was fortunate to meet Andy Cohen, the Co-CEO of Gensler.
Andy sees the future of driverless cars in a similar fashion, and he gave a presentation to CBRE on the impact they will have on real estate. I sat in the front row, riveted. Afterwards, I told him that we shared the same vision and I wrote a blog piece gushing about his presentation.
Shortly thereafter, I had an idea for an event that featured Andy as the keynote speaker. Since I am on the Board of Advisors for CRE//Tech, I approached Michael Beckerman and his amazing team with the idea. They loved it!
The process that we used to curate this event is what’s driving so many decisions in workplace strategy.
The team at CRE//Tech listened carefully to my thoughts and ideas and were willing to bet that I wasn’t the only person in corporate real estate that was interested in the topic.
We were then able to collaborate with Andy and his team at Gensler, who have proven to be truly great partners, in determining the location, the timing, and the feel of the event. Lew Horne’s team at CBRE in Los Angeles jumped on board and three teams, from three separate companies, all worked together to make something special out of a simple idea.
The goal was for this to be a regional event for CRE//Tech, likely limiting ticket sales to 250. Those people will leave blown away and smarter on a technology that will disrupt our industry and society.
If you have an idea for an event, reach out to me or anyone else on the Board of Advisors. The goal is to create events that are impactful, educational, and thoughtful. If there’s a topic that we aren’t thinking about, we will thank you for bringing it to our attention.
And if you are in LA on September 28th, come check out Andy Cohen and our other amazing speakers. It’s going to be awesome!
